Graduate opportunities

Looking for a chance to apply the full range of your talents? Then how about a role that combines detailed analysis with big-picture commercial thinking? One that gives you direct exposure to high-profile FMCG companies and global brands.

At ACNielsen we collect data from thousands of retailers every week, and have more than 10,000 people in the UK telling us which products they buy, and when and where they buy them. When you’re working at ACNielsen, it will be up to you to analyse that data and turn it into something exciting and useful for your clients. In short, you’ll bring figures to life.

Joining us as a Client Executive, you’ll acquire the skills and knowledge to understand consumers and help clients make better marketing decisions. We’ll provide you with ongoing support to progress quickly within the client service arena, building your confidence to the point where you can deliver insights and recommendations that will improve clients’ businesses.

It’s not for the faint-hearted. You’ll quickly begin working on live client issues, and from that you’ll develop an understanding of their business – building relationships with key client contacts, initially over the phone and eventually face to face. By spending time in both Client Management (with our manufacturing clients) and in Retail Services (with retail clients), you’ll quickly establish a broad overview of the services we provide.

You could end up staying in either area. But whether you’re analysing which customers buy certain products, determining why one brand is performing better than another or identifying growth opportunities, your end goal will be the same: to interpret data on behalf of our clients, and use it to develop practical marketing insights that will add real value to their business.

You’ll have plenty of training on what the data means, how we use it and the software packages we use – not to mention soft-skills coaching. We’ll also provide you with ongoing support to shape your own career development.

If you perform extremely well, you could progress to Client Manager level in as little eighteen months, where you’ll begin to shape long-term strategies alongside senior managers – working to understand what clients need, and challenging what they ask us to do against the objectives they set.

Our clients succeed in the market by understanding their consumers, so you’ll need to understand not only the businesses you’re working with, but also the wider market in which they operate. That’s why as well as a high level of numeracy and a 2.1 degree (or equivalent) in any discipline, you’ll need a genuine curiosity as to why people shop the way they do: why one supermarket does better than another; why there’s a “50% off” promotion instead of “buy one get one free”.

In return you can expect a great package including an incentive scheme, 25 days’ holiday, private healthcare, a pension – and a car when you reach Client Manager level. We have up to eight places on the programme, which begins in September 2008.
